Replacement Camshafts and Crankshafts
Camshafts and the crankshaft work together to synchronize valve timing with the piston stroke to produce complete combustion. Any issues with the camshaft or crankshaft can affect the performance of your engine, and can even cause serious internal engine damage if there is a critical part failure. If you experience a camshaft or crankshaft failure, O'Reilly Auto Parts has complete repair solutions, including timing belts and chains and internal engine components, to get you back on the road.
New Crankshafts
Crankshafts are located in the lower part of the engine on most vehicles. The pistons connect to the crankshaft via connecting rods, and the rotation of the crankshaft moves the piston up and down in the engine cylinder. The crankshaft also connects to the engine accessory belt drive using belts, and to the camshaft(s) using timing chains or belts. If your crankshaft spins a bearing or experiences excess wear, you will likely notice a knocking noise from the bottom of the engine, and this will continue to worsen until the issue is resolved. If the crankshaft breaks, you may experience a catastrophic engine failure that will stop the engine from running, and in some severe cases, lock up the engine or cause damage to the engine block. Repair or replace your crankshaft with the right parts from O'Reilly Auto Parts at the first sign of an issue to ensure that your vehicle's engine lasts as long as possible.
New and Upgraded Camshafts
Camshafts are part of the engine's valve train, and control the timing and opening range of the intake and exhaust valves. When the engine is running, the camshaft rotates and uses lobes to push against and open the valves. As the lobe releases the valve, valve springs return the valve to the closed position. It is not common for a camshaft to break because most are made from a single machined steel shaft, but the camshaft lobes can wear down over time. This can cause misfires or other engine performance problems because the timing will no longer be adequate for complete combustion. If your engine is equipped with variable valve timing (VVT), performance can also be affected by failing camshaft adjusters, gears, or other parts of the system. O'Reilly Auto Parts has you covered with the parts you need for your camshaft repair or replacement.
