The Ford Mustang's positive crankcase ventilation valve, or PCV valve, allows the buildup of blowby gas and the pressure it creates to escape the crankcase, and sends some of the gas back into the intake and combustion chamber to be reburned. This not only increases efficiency, but also reduces emissions due to evaporated oil entering the atmosphere. Over time, the PCV valve can be clogged with debris or the valve itself may seize and fail to open at the proper pressure. This can cause pressure buildup in the crankcase, which can result in performance problems and oil leaks.
