The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve uses engine vacuum to remove the blowby gas and oil vapor that naturally builds up inside combustion engines and sends the vapors to the intake manifold to be burned as fuel. The PCV valve opens at set pressures, but otherwise remains closed. With age, the PCV valve can freeze or it clog, and may not allow the gases from the crankcase to vent.
