What is a PCV Valve Elbow?

The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve elbow attaches the PCV valve and hose to the valve cover or intake manifold to allow the gasses produced by oil evaporation in the crankcase to safely pass from the valve to the combustion chambers to be burned. The PCV system is designed to control and reduce the emission of harmful gasses from the engine by recycling them through the PCV valve into the intake manifold. This also helps prevent engine and gasket damage due to pressure buildup and helps maintain the overall health and performance of the engine. PCV valve elbows are typically made from plastic, and over time or due to exposure to heat, may need to be replaced.
