What is a Fuel Vapor Leak Detection Pump?

The fuel vapor leak detection pump monitors for any gas or emission leaks from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. This pump is designed to test for vapor leaks in any part of the fuel system by pressurizing the EVAP system and communicating with the vehicle's computer to locate and correct any leaks. The EVAP system helps circulate unused liquid fuel and vapors back to the fuel tank or vapor canister to reduce the amount of pollutants entering the atmosphere. Your vehicle's EVAP fuel vapor leak detection pump is a component required in vehicles by federal law, and it monitors for small leaks that might otherwise be hard to detect or see. When an EVAP system leak is detected, the pump will activate the Check Engine light to alert you to a problem. In some cases, this can be as simple as a loose gas cap, so be sure to stop by your local O'Reilly Auto Parts for free Check Engine light testing. to begin your diagnosis and repair. If your fuel vapor leak detection pump or other parts of your EVAP system fail, you may notice fuel odors, your engine may run rough, or your Check Engine light may come on, and it's best to inspect the system for signs of leaks, damage, or clogs. If you need a fuel vapor leak detection pump or other EVAP system parts, check out O'Reilly Auto Parts' selection to find the right parts to keep your vehicle driving at its best.
