The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) uses an EGR valve to recycle some of the exhaust gas and direct it back to the intake manifold so it can be burned. This causes better gas mileage and reduces engine combustion temperatures. The EGR valve may use vacuum pressure, or is controlled by the engine control unit depending on your Ford truck's age. Over time, the EGR valve can become clogged or freeze up and may be unable to open to allow exhaust to recirculate. If your Ford F-Series truck has poor fuel economy, the Check Engine light is on, or you hear a tapping or pinging noise at lower speeds, the EGR valve may need to be replaced. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries EGR valves for your Ford F-Series, along with other emission parts, for a full repair.
