What is a Belt Component Kit?

The accessory belt drive powers your vehicle's power steering, air conditioning, water pump, and alternator by connecting the pulleys to the crankshaft. When the engine is running and the crankshaft is rotating, this power is transferred to the accessories to ensure that they operate consistently. Your vehicle's belt drive system may utilize a single serpentine belt and an automatic tensioner or may have multiple V-belts depending on its age and design. Over time, belts can crack, wear out, or be damaged, or a tensioner or idler pulley may wear out and fail. If you notice squealing or chirping noises, poor air conditioning performance, charging issues, or power steering failure, your belt or tensioner may need to be replaced. Inspecting these components for signs of damage can help narrow down the source of the problem, but it's typically best to replace a serpentine belt and tensioner at the same time to ensure long-lasting performance. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we have complete belt component kits to ensure a complete replacement. Most kits include the belt, pulleys, and tensioner needed for a complete repair.
