What is a U-Joint Strap or Clamp?

U-joint straps or clamps are used to secure the driveshaft, pinion, and axle yokes to the U-joints to prevent separating or slipping during operation and allow the driveshaft to transmit torque from the transmission. Bumpy roads or rough terrain can cause vibrations, and driveshaft operation can amplify any looseness which can be harmful to your vehicle's U-joints if they are not properly secured. A loose U-joint can also cause excessive vibration, which may damage the U-joint and cause it to fail or separate, leading to damage to other parts or a disconnected drivetrain. It's recommended that you replace the clamp or strap when the U-joints are disconnected, usually when servicing the drivetrain or replacing the U-joints. Each U-joint clamp kit includes all the necessary vehicle-specific hardware needed to replace any clamps or straps during a U-joint service.
