Drive Shaft Support Bearing Replacement


A drive shaft center support bearing is a component of a vehicle's drivetrain system that supports the two halves of the drive shaft between the transmission and rear differential. This helps to reduce vibrations and maintain the correct alignment of the drive shaft, and allows the driveshaft to be split into two sections in trucks and SUVs with longer wheelbases. Center support bearings are often made up of a bracket mounted to the frame which houses the bearing, and along with U-joints at each connecting end of the driveshaft, this allows all of these parts to rotate at an angle and maintain driveshaft performance. Over time, the center support bearing can wear out, loosen, or become damaged. This can lead to increased vibrations when accelerating from a complete stop, or squealing or grinding noises when slowing down.
