Replacements for a Ripped CV Boot

The constant velocity (CV) shaft transfers power from the transaxle to wheels, and prevents the vertical and horizontal motion of the suspension and steering systems from interrupting power delivery. The CV boot is a rubber or thermoplastic component designed to protect the joint of the CV shaft, and seals the CV axle grease inside the joint to help maintain lubrication and prevent dirt, debris, and moisture from entering. Debris, moisture, and grit can contaminate the grease and cause poor lubrication, corrosion, and other damage during the CV axle's operation. When a CV axle fails, it is often due to a lack of grease, and this may be caused by a leak from the CV boot. Over time, the CV boot can become dry and brittle and may crack or tear, which exposes the CV joint to contaminants that could cause damage and failure. If you may notice your vehicle clicking when turning, grease near the wheel, or more vibration than normal while driving, then the CV shaft might need service or replacement. In some cases, the CV boot can be replaced if the CV joint has not been damaged, so perform a complete repair to ensure the CV joint has not been compromised before beginning your boot replacement. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries replacement CV shafts and CV boots for many types of vehicles to help you make your repair and keep your vehicle driving at its best.
