Jeep Wrangler Axle Shaft

The axle shaft on your Jeep Wrangler connects the wheel to the carrier and the ring and pinion in the differential to deliver the power needed to move your SUV. Axle shafts typically include the hub and lug studs that mount the wheels, along with a spline at the opposite end that connects to the carrier. Axles can bend if you are in an accident or may suffer wear or damage over time. The most common issue is caused by a worn axle bearing that can damage the axle surface where the axle and bearing meet. In some cases the bearing can be replaced and the axle inspected or honed and returned to service. If the axle on your Wrangler is already bent or severely damaged, then you might experience wobbling or vibration during operation, and the axle shaft itself may need to be replaced. When repairing the axle, be sure you also check all of the bearings and replace these parts as well if they are damaged or worn.
