Where is the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir on My Vehicle?

The power steering fluid reservoir on your vehicle stores the fluid used in your power steering system. Power steering fluid is pumped from the reservoir throughout your power steering system, and then returned to the reservoir to be stored until it is recirculated. Your power steering fluid reservoir is located under the hood, usually toward the passenger side of the vehicle or engine, and may be integrated into the power steering pump or mounted remotely and connected to the system using hoses. When you need to check or refill your power steering fluid levels, you'll typically find a dipstick to check your fluid level in the cap of the power steering reservoir. In other cases, the reservoir may be made of clear metal with markings indicating the appropriate power steering fluid level. The power steering reservoir can crack or deteriorate over time due to high temperature levels in the engine compartment or may become discolored or damaged due to age. This can cause power steering fluid leaks or difficulty assessing your power steering fluid levels. If you hear whining or squealing noises while turning, have difficulty steering, or notice a power steering fluid leak, check the power steering reservoir, hoses, and other power steering system parts for signs of wear or damage. A power steering fluid leak can reduce your ability to properly steer your vehicle and should be repaired right away. Driving with low power steering fluid may also cause damage to the power steering pump. When you're ready to make your repair, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries replacement power steering reservoirs, power steering pumps, hoses, and power steering fluid for a complete repair.
