Leaf springs are the basis and structural support of a leaf spring suspension system and are held together by a leaf spring bolt. Leaf springs are made up of individual arched metal leaves stacked on top of one another and connected to the vehicle using shackles on either end of the top leaf. The leaves slide over one another on rough roads and flex to absorb vibrations and bumps. In the center of the leaf spring is a leaf spring bolt that passes through each leaf. It holds the leaves together and keeps them from moving out of alignment when they flex. By bolting the leaves through the middle, the spring can still flex on both sides. If you notice increased shaking, worn tires, or tilting, you may want to check your leaf spring system, including your leaf spring bolts.
