Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

The sway bar, also known as an anti-roll bar or stabilizer bar, is designed to reduce the body roll of a vehicle during cornering and provide better stability and handling. The sway bar is typically connected to the two lower control arms using sway bar links, and then to the frame or chassis using sway bar bushings. Sway bar bushings are small rubber or polyurethane grommets that fit around the sway bar to prevent direct contact with the frame. Over time, sway bar bushings can wear out, causing the sway bar to move more than it should. This can result in a decrease in handling, control, and stability. Worn bushings can also cause clunking or rattling noises when driving over bumps. In some cases, sway bar bushings can be greased, but many are not serviceable and will require replacement when they begin to fail. Inspecting your sway bar, control arms, ball joints, and all bushings and links in the suspension system can help you make your diagnosis to be certain that the sway bar bushings are the source of the problem. Shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for the sway bar bushings, sway bar links, and other suspension system parts to help you make your repair.
