The sway bar or stabilizer bar on your Subaru Outback is a solid piece of metal that twists when your SUV makes turns to stabilize the wheels, keep them in contact with the pavement, and prevent you from feeling the rolling sensation you would otherwise experience from the body. The sway bar is connected to the frame and control arm using rubber bushings and sway bar links, and with age, the sway bar bushings can deteriorate and allow the sway bar to move more than it should. If your Subaru Outback is making a knocking or squeaking sound, especially when you go over bumps, or if your SUV feels unstable when making turns, the sway bar bushings may have failed. Inspect the sway bar bushings, and if they seem dried out, hard, or if they're visibly damaged, they should be replaced. If you need replacement sway bar bushings, sway bar links, control arm bushings, or ball joints, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a full line of suspension parts for your Subaru Outback for a complete repair.
