What is a Suspension Air Compressor?

The suspension air compressor is found in vehicles with an air suspension system and builds pressure to supply the air reservoirs and air shocks and deliver quiet, stable suspension operation.. Air suspension systems are most commonly found on luxury cars and trucks to provide a smooth, comfortable ride, and can often be adjusted to suit different driving conditions as well as ride height. Air suspension systems can become damaged and develop leaks over time, and this can cause the compressor to run more frequently than it should. Eventually this may lead to compressor wear, causing it to fail and no longer produce adequate air pressure to keep the vehicle's suspension performing as it should. Suspension air compressors are often activated by a relay and sensor in the air ride system that may also fail, which can cause the compressor to overcharge the system or fail to turn on and off as it should. If you notice your vehicle sagging, sitting unevenly, riding lower than usual, or if you hear an air leak, check the air suspension for damage and ensure the suspension air compressor is running as it should. These issues could be related not only to the compressor, but also to leaks in the air shocks, supply lines, and more, so be sure to complete your diagnosis before beginning an air ride system repair. Shop O'Reilly Auto Parts to find the replacement suspension air compressor, air shocks, relays, and more that you might need to keep your air ride system working at its best.
