1997 Geo Tracker - Adjustable Drag Link Sleeve
What Adjusts the Steering Drag Link?
The steering drag link is a metal rod that connects the pitman arm to the steering linkage. As you turn the vehicle's wheel, the steering gear box engages the pitman arm and begins to rotate it. This pushes the drag link to either side, depending on which way your steering wheel is rotated, and causes the vehicle to turn. The steering drag link in some vehicles may include two threaded sections which can be screwed together using a drag link adjusting sleeve. Drag link adjusting sleeves are similar to the sleeves found between inner and outer tie rods, and allow for stronger and more adjustable steering alignment. Over time, the adjusting sleeve can experience wear. If you notice your vehicle pulling to either side, vibration or looseness in the steering wheel, or uneven tire wear, you may have a damaged drag link or adjusting sleeve, or the vehicle may simply require an alignment. If the sleeve is worn, the drag link may begin to separate and affect your vehicle's alignment, or make it difficult or impossible to steer the vehicle, creating unsafe driving conditions. If you need a replacement drag link or adjusting sleeve, or if you need to repair your tie rod, idler arm, or other steering and suspension components, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts.
