Why are Body Mounts Important?

Body mounts connect the frame of your vehicle to the body, and are found in body-on-frame designs. The body mounts are made up of rubber bushings to absorb the vibrations and noise of driving and cushion the vehicle's body from metal-on-metal contact. This helps to ensure that the body and frame can flex at different rates during vehicle operation. Over time, these rubber bushings can wear down and start to fail, and the bolts that secure the body mounts may loosen and allow additional body sway and movement. Without functional body mount bushings, the vibrations from your vehicle can lead to damage to your body or frame, as well as to parts of your engine, wiring harness, or suspension components. Body mounts can also fail due to wear and rust buildup, allowing them to loosen and no longer maintain adequate contact or security.
