2005 Nissan Altima - Starter Solenoid
Nissan Altima Starter Solenoid
The starter solenoid is part of your Nissan Altima's starter that receives voltage from the battery and uses it to activate the starter when your ignition switch is in the start position. When the ignition switch is turned, the solenoid connects the battery's voltage to the starter to engage the flywheel and allow the engine to start, then disconnects voltage when you return the key to the run position. It's possible for the starter solenoid to wear out with time and lock in the open or closed position. This can cause your vehicle to fail to start or prevent voltage from reaching your Altima's starter, or the starter may continue to spin once the engine is running. If you are having issues starting your vehicle, then you should check the battery and the connectors, as well as the starter solenoid, to ensure the starter is getting voltage. In some cases, the starter solenoid is built into the starter, requiring you to replace the whole assembly, but remote-mounted solenoids might need to be replaced separately.
