Ford Mustang Starter

The starter on your Ford Mustang is an electric motor that turns a bendix gear, which engages the flywheel or flexplate and causes the engine to turn. The starter solenoid sends electricity to the starter when the ignition switch is turned, and some models have the solenoid built into the starter, while others have the solenoid mounted separately. Solenoids and starters wear out over time. If you hear a loud whirring noise when you turn the ignition key, or if you hear a click, but the engine doesn't turn, the problem could be a weak starter. A very weak battery will also cause a clicking sound. If you need a new battery, solenoid, starter, or other starting parts, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for the correct part for your Mustang.
