Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder Repair Kits

The wheel cylinder is a key component in a drum brake system, and is responsible for applying hydraulic pressure to the brake shoes when the driver presses the brake pedal. The wheel cylinder contains pistons that are pushed outward by hydraulic pressure, which in turn presses the brake shoes against the drum to create friction and slow the vehicle down. Over time, the wheel cylinder can become worn or damaged, leading to leaks, reduced braking performance, and other issues. Most wheel cylinders end up failing because of an aging or torn rubber seal that can allow the pistons to leak brake fluid. In other cases, corrosion or clogs could cause the wheel cylinder to become stuck and keep the brake shoes constantly engaged with the drum. This can lead to your vehicle pulling to one side or dragging one wheel, which can cause more serious damage and dangerous driving conditions. A wheel cylinder kit allows you to rebuild your own wheel cylinders using replacement seals and springs, and may include new pistons and other components needed to restore the wheel cylinder to its original functionality. A wheel cylinder rebuild kit is a great option for expensive or unavailable wheel cylinders, especially in limited-run or older vehicles. If you are unable to find a new or rebuilt wheel cylinder for a rare or classic car, a wheel cylinder kit may be the best available option to restore your braking performance. When repairing a wheel cylinder, you should also consider replacing your drum brake hardware or brake shoes as well for a complete drum brake repair.
