The brake self adjuster cable is part of the drum brake self-adjusting system. When your brake shoes begin to wear down, they must move further to reach the drum. Once the brake shoes move past the adjuster screw threshold, the cable will pull the adjusting lever into the next notch of the adjuster screw. This readjusts your brake shoe distance from the drum to maintain your braking power. If your cable frays or snaps, you may notice unusual brake pedal feel or a loose parking brake. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we carry self adjuster cables, drum brake hardware kits, brake drums and shoes, wheel cylinders and more for select vehicles.
