Hoses
The hoses on your vehicle allow the various fluids, including coolant, power steering, transmission fluid, and fuel to flow through the proper channels into and out of the engine and transmission. Hoses are also used to vent crankcase gases, to recycle exhaust gas, and connect to systems that use engine vacuum to operate. Hoses are an essential part of any engine and should be inspected as a part of your regular vehicle maintenance.
Hose Clamps and Connectors
Depending on the system, the hoses on your vehicle use different types of clamps or connectors to seal the ends of the hose and prevent leaks. Low-pressure hoses, like the radiator hoses, use adjustable hose clamps or spring-loaded clamps which are not adjustable. Higher-pressure hoses use either crimped-on metal connectors or quick-locking connectors that seal the ends of the hose that do not require an external clamp. With time, hose clamps or connections can wear out and loosen, allowing leaks to form. Stop or prevent leaks by installing new hose clamps or connectors when you change your hoses, as well as regularly checking the condition of your hoses and replacing them as needed.
