What is Refrigerant Oil?

Refrigerant oil helps lubricate and seal the A/C compressor and other working components in the A/C system. As the A/C compressor runs, refrigerant and refrigerant oil are circulated throughout the system, and this can also minimize the risk of corrosion inside of metal A/C parts. If you have lost refrigerant recently from a leak or part replacement, you may also have low refrigerant oil levels in the system. When recharging the A/C system, it is important to always restore refrigerant oil levels to ensure continued performance and a lasting repair. Low refrigerant oil levels may result in component failures or inefficient cooling. A/C compressors that are low on oil may squeak or squeal, overheat, or lock up and stop working completely, leading to a much more costly repair.
