The electrical system that powers and controls the air conditioning on your vehicle is regulated by a series of relays. Relays can control components such as the compressor, compressor clutch, cooling fan, and blower motor as needed to keep the A/C working as it should and the cabin at the desired temperature. Over time, relays can fail internally and may not send the appropriate electrical signals as needed. If a relay goes bad, the compressor may not turn on, or the blower motor may not run at the correct speed and can fail to turn on at all. If you notice that the A/C in your vehicle is not running consistently or if you can't hear the compressor clutch activating, checking the relays is a good place to start diagnosing the problem.
