What is an A/C Assembly Hose?

An air conditioning hose is a component in your vehicle's A/C system, and is used to carry refrigerant through high-pressure discharge and low-pressure suction hoses between A/C components and the A/C compressor. A/C hose assemblies are specially constructed using crimped fittings, metal lines, and high-pressure rubber designed to transport both high- and low-pressure refrigerant to and from the engine-mounted A/C compressor. The A/C hose assembly on your vehicle also likely seals to the compressor using O-rings to prevent leaks at the compressor, which could cause refrigerant loss and prevent the system from working as it should. Over time, the rubber of your A/C hoses can break down, abrasion caused by contact with other components in the engine compartment can cause holes to develop, or the fittings can develop wear and leaks, and the A/C hose assembly may need to be replaced. If your A/C hose is failing or leaking, the air from your vents may not be as cold as it should be, or in some cases, the compressor may not activate due to low refrigerant pressure in the system. Depending on the design of your A/C system, low refrigerant and refrigerant oil levels due to a leaking A/C hose can also lead to compressor damage or failure. If your A/C system is not working correctly, inspect your A/C hoses for any signs of cracks, damage, or visible leaks. It may also be necessary to diagnose the compressor, compressor clutch, or any pressure sensors present in your A/C system to determine the source of the problem. If your A/C hose assembly needs to be replaced, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a wide selection of A/C components, including A/C hoses, refrigerant, and A/C compressors for most vehicles.
