Window Tint Basics

Window tint can add both style and practical value to your driving experience and the worth of your vehicle. Not only do window tints look good, they help keep your cabin cooler (so you don’t have to run your AC as much) and protect your interior from being damaged by heat, glare and UV rays. And the good news is, with a few simple tools, you can install window tint yourself.

Visible Light Transmission (VLT)

The most important thing to consider when you choose tint for your vehicle is Visible Light Transmission, or VLT. The VLT of window tint indicates the percentage of light that the tint allows to pass through the glass. For example, if a window tint lets in 20% of light, it has a VLT of 20%. So, the lower the percentage, the LESS light will make it into your vehicle.
Before deciding on the VLT you really want, be sure to know the tint laws for your state. For information on your state’s tint laws, visit https://iwfa.com/news-events/state-law-charts.
