The Ignition coil is an essential part in the ignition system providing the energy to create spark at the spark plug and ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The ignition coil consists of two copper coil windings and a laminated iron core in a precisely manufactured housing designed to fit into the tight area under the hood or on the motor assembly. An ignition coil should last the life of a vehicle but when overheated due to worn mating components such as worn or fouled spark plugs, or in older applications failed distributor cap or ignition wires, the coil windings will overheat and short together creating a weak spark or no-start condition
