In 1954, Onnie Jones of Oklahoma decided to manufacturer his hand cleaner full-time, starting Joe's Kleen Products. He and his business partner, Claire Newman, worked diligently over a decade to improve Joe's No Water Mechanics Hand Soap that Onnie had originally bought from a chemist. Their goal was to create a waterless, odorless, and non-greasy hand cleaner for their customers. With input from their chemical suppliers, a 3-gallon washtub, and a boat paddle for stirring, the formula for Joe's Kleen Products was perfected.
